They have build a fantastic network where worker coops participate together to share and work without competing. They train each other for free in technologies to be able to grow and expand too.In conversation from indy.im permalink Attachments

kat (boneidol@indy.im)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Apr-2019 21:47:42 UTC kat @jezra yes! I've been hacking on Haskell off and on for a little while now. I worked through the "Monad Challenges" https://mightybyte.github.io/monad-challenges/ sometime last year In conversation from indy.im permalink Attachments

kat (boneidol@indy.im)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Apr-2019 21:31:01 UTC kat @jezra well... I am working through the questions from Advent of Code 2018 and solving them with Haskell, but perhaps they are not particularly well suited to functional solutions In conversation from indy.im permalink -

kat (boneidol@indy.im)'s status on Tuesday, 23-Apr-2019 15:38:31 UTC kat I am wondering if #Haskell is worth bothering with... I've just written some code to solve a problem in it. And the best solution I could devise was the functional equivalent of a "do while" loop.
It was a solution to https://adventofcode.com/2018/day/10
https://indy.im/attachment/122538
It goes around a loop modifying a List of points, until the area of the points bounding box is a reaches a local minimum.
It just doesn't seem very functional. but I can't think of a better way to do this.

kat (boneidol@indy.im)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Apr-2019 20:42:03 UTC kat I suppose I should be pleased. A execution time from 11min -> 0.1 sec
This functional programming malarky seems a bit dangerous. Making everything stateless and recursive seems nice, but picking the correct data structures and choices makes a huge difference. In conversation from indy.im permalink -
kat (boneidol@indy.im)'s status on Wednesday, 17-Apr-2019 20:15:12 UTC kat Ok, I made some changes, and it does the first part in a 0.1s now, and the second part in 7s. However the code looks very much like an imperative language now. There is a loop over a list inside which we do things, and use the State Monad to change things.
The result is still slower than Python and less readable now.
