I don’t use either (dislike them intensely, even though I prefer #KDE overall), but I’d start by looking at #SSL / #TLS and data compression settings. !XMPP

@steve Does this also happen if you post links to the images and host them on your MediaGoblin? That might be a way to get around some of this.
