@gargron LibreOffice Impress is perfectly fine. Any text editor will do as well. @hannes2peer@quitter.se once did a presentation based off a thread in Quitter where he had posted the slides as queets with attachments.
@dansup Good! Why I'm worries is because that's how you initially mocked up the needs and features for Pixelfed. I'm happy that's not how it's developed.
Except that I don't think my motivation for hacking is "to do crime" - though I kind of get what you're getting at and agree enough to applaude - I thought it was an awesome text and I'm very happy (as a non-goer unfortunately) that C3 is taking a more explicit political stance.
The last half year I've tried to seed !umehack into discussing these things more and making sure we have a common baseline for activism in the hackerspace. For example we've participated in Umeå's anarchist bookfaire etc.
2018 was the year I concluded that any system whose purpose is to measure, capture, and monetize human attention is immoral and inevitably leads to the erosion of the commons and society itself. In 2019 I'm committed to helping dismantle these systems by all possible means. Concretely this means supporting nonprofit alternatives like mastodon, blocking all ad tracking (sorry, people whose livelihoods have been captured by that industry), and doing whatever most damages the attention industry.
Remember how we thought we knew what Pluto looked like, but we actually didn't because we had been working off artists' renditions and some HST smudges? Then, all of a sudden, we had *amazing* high-quality, true color photos of that gorgeous thing with its eerie lack of color and surprise heart? <3
We didn't even know Ultima Thule existed five years ago. Here's what it looks like as I'm going to bed! Tomorrow we'll actually know for real!
So happy to meet this icy rocky planet-stuff baby. \o/
