hunting for an accountant for an open science nonprofit org in the UK. Finding value alignment is tough - one lovely guy started explaining why Open Source wasn't a good business model. Dude you're lovely but seriously, that part is _non negotiable_ in science hippie land.
The irony of me, as a GSoC admin, urging my students to submit their evaluations a day early, whilst me, as a grad student, am submitting my conference talk two days late.... is not lost on my 😅
(Screams into pillow) there are so many examples of researchers using 'public' data in ways that end up seeming spooky and surveillancey, and/or generally misbehaving around OSS projects. It really hurts when OSS maintainer A signs up to my study and maintainer B from the same project passive-aggressive repeatedly tells me I'm wasting maintainer time by trying to be transparent and make sure contributors know I'm gathering metrics about their repo.
