I missed today's time window for #videochat with #GD2 and also the one for videochat with #GS3, #GS4, #GS5.

#sonTwo's family is visiting his in-laws for Christmas, so there won't be another #videochat with #GS3, #GS4, #GS5 until January.
I'll try to ask the four year old if he got to observe the storm that hit #FL and is headed toward the Northeast this weekend.

Today's #videochat with 12 year old #GD2 included me telling her that unemployment benefits have ended, so there's nothing being shipped to her this Christmas.
She said she's going to talk to her parents ( #sonOne and his wife ) about sending me something.

Someone implied that my favorite child is obvious.
* #sonOne: mailed his birthday card the day before, so it arrived late
* #sonTwo: mailed his birthday card and a book two weeks early
* #Daddy_A: no birthday card mailed
But once they grow up and move out, your "favorite" is the one who stays in touch most. Second son currently calls me about 4X/week, plus does a regular weekly #videochat between me and his family. The older and younger boys are a lot less communicative.
But honestly, I bought both sons' cards the same day, after I got unemployment benefits. The other child's birthday is earlier, when I had no funds.

#sonTwo had some work-related training today, so I did not get to #videochat with grandsons ( #GS3, #GS4, #GS5 ).
I did attempt to call with #sonOne's youngest daughter ( #GD2 ), but network issues prevented the connection.
#Daddy_A's oldest, #A1, hasn't had service for his phone in so long that he'll probably have a new number if and when they reactivate it.

During today's #videochat, I got to watch Spiderman and Darth Vader attack Emperor Daddius with lightsabers. They then battled each other after Spiderman attacked Darth Mommius.

I was in a #videochat with #GD2 when the Ojai quake alert came. It warned 5.5 magnitude quake near Ojai. Shaking heading your way. Take cover now!
But I (correctly) believed that an M5.5 quake in Ojai is too far away to pose any danger here. But we did get to talk about earthquakes and tropical storms (and about her 4 year old cousin #GS3, who is very interested in weather).

Great #videochat with #GS3, #GS4, and briefly #GS5. We talked about their books that I'm reading for them. Also about their outing yesterday ... the family went for a drive ... #sonTwo didn't say that they stopped anywhere, either. Usually, such trips end up with a stop at a city park if the weather is okay.

Great #videochat with #GD2 today. We're trying to do weekly short calls instead of infrequent longer ones.
-
Had a delightful #videochat with #GD-2, who will be in middle school soon. She told me that she's enduring long distance communications only because we have not been face to face in some years.
-
#GD2 sent an invitation for a #videochat on Saturday. She's eleven, but she's been writing full sentences, with punctuation, correctly spelled since she was six.
She's the only person I know who is younger than about thirty whose written messages immediately make sense. (To be fair, I used to have to rewrite letters from relatives so that I could understand the message.)

During tonight’s #videochat, #GS3 told me more about Tropical Cyclone Mocha and especially about Tropical Storm Arlene. He knows that Arlene was near #FL, where his other grandparents live. He had not seen that Arlene broke apart, so he was concerned about them.
#GS4 didn’t say a lot. He told me that some of his berries yesterday were “greenberries”, not blueberries.
#GS5 looked grumpy. Then he quickly smiled twice at me, then returned to his grumpy look.
I don’t have budget for it right now, but the kids need hats with big floppy brims, sunglasses, and sunscreen.
-
I got to #videochat with them tonight because #sonTwo's work schedule won't allow us to chat the traditional day and time.

I had a #videochat tonight with #GS3, #GS4, and #GS5. The older two have birthdays coming up. The almost 4 year old told me about earthquakes and a storm that gave him a headache … which seemed pretty dramatic, so he may have embellished a bit. The almost 2 year old had a whole conversation of one word responses. His vocabulary is expanding. He also brought me his newest toy (some sort of stuffed animal with electronics that flash lights, make noises, and move … reminded me of Gremlins from the 1980s movie)
The TV was on, so the almost 4 year old was distracted (the almost 2 year old also, but much less), but they talked until (and partway through) dinnertime.
-
The #hotel_Wi-Fi is horribly slow tonight. Around 2Mbps download speed.
We're going to try to have a #videochat with #GS3, #GS4, #GS5 tonight, so I'll hotspot off the phone instead.

I got to #videochat with #GS4 & #GS5 yesterday. #GS3 was watching TV, and did not participate. We’re going to have another videochat today, without any television 📺 to interfere.
The almost two years old child was at the limit of his verbal expression, but he was clear about what he was saying. “I’m happy that we’re having this chat, but I want you to come back and talk in person.”
-
Had a #videochat with #GS3 and #GS4. During the chat, the 3.5 year old carried the phone around the house and found a missing steak knife on the floor underneath something. I sent #sonTwo a text message telling him to ask his son where the knife is.
The 1.5 year old asked me to pick him up. His word for that is "down".

Daughter-in-law called and put #GS3 on #videochat before his bedtime. He was engaged the entire call, telling me about things he did today, things we did together before I left, and talking about things I did not even understand.
-
#sonTwo put the boys on #videochat yesterday after they had visited a pick-your-own farm. #GS4 (age 1) ate everything he picked, while #GS3 (age 3) filled the bucket.
They love fruit.
During the chat, GS3 showed me his new monster truck toy (a little bigger than a Hot Wheels toy). GS4 was eating a sandwich and kept calling me "Dadda" and "Papa", then (after sonTwo corrected him) he'd call me "Gan'pa" before starting over with Dadda. He ate about half the sandwich before he held it too low and it became dog food.
The new puppy is teething, so they need to have lots of chew toys to stick in front of it whenever it tries to chew something it shouldn't chew. Hopefully, this time they can weather the storm long enough to get the doggy past that stage. A prior puppy's chewing got so bad that they took it to sonTwo's in-laws because it even tried to chew on GS3.
The existing dog has learned to escape from human children when it wants a little rest, but the doggy child goes into the backyard when the older dog goes out.

#GS4 had his big grin in today's #videochat. #GS3 told me about his favorite book, Piggie and Elephant Biggie, but he did not read it to me today.
