Why? I’m a normie who liked #STTOS, #STTNG, #STDS9, but never learned Klingon or wore fake Vulcan ears. The original movies were garbage (ST:Generations was okay), but the first of the JJ Abrams was good. I know Trekkies hated it, but normies liked it. I have not seen any of the newer series or movies.
In some respect, it is like seeing someone you knew in high school at the mall. It’s okay to say “I really liked the old days” and ask how they are doing and what their life has been like since you knew each other. But it is not okay to decide at 40 or even 80 years old that you and your old school buddy are going to try to relive those years. You’re not the same people and you’ve evolved your lives independently.
So I see no reason (other than “hey, we can make more money”) for Paramount to re-launch Star Trek every five or ten years. Instead, create a new story or set of stories, set in a new universe, with new plots, new characters, and a new objective.
I watched reruns of ST:TOS (the original series) for many years. I enjoyed it immensely. I will never be a Trekkie. I just like the show.
I saw an occasional ST:TNG or ST:DS9 episode if I lingered while dropping off #sonOne after a visit, but by that time, I had no TV, so other than probably 5 the next generation and probably 2 deep space nine episodes, I never saw them.
I have never seen any episodes of any other ST series.
The original ST movies were awful garbage. I enjoyed ST:Generations (the movie in which Capt Kirk dies), but the ones that preceded it were not good. The movie with the whale was so fake that it felt like "hey, we're running out of money, let's pump the franchise again to refill our accounts".
I saw the first JJ Abrams Star Trek movie. I actually enjoyed it. I can see why Trekkies hated it, but the earlier movies were chasing off normies. This movie made it possible for regular people to enjoy Star Trek again. That said, I have not seen any later ST movies.
I like ST, but I'm not ever going to be obsessed with it.

katI'm worried about the science in DS9 #Startrek. If Sisko travelled at sublight speeds to Cardassia ( or at least part of the way until the Tachyon pressure on the light sail pushed them to warp speed) what happened to the time dilation. I'm fine with there being no time dilation at warp speeds, but really they should deal with the relativistic affects of travelling at high sublight speeds.
[I don't care much for the pop culture aspects, or about linguistics of the Klingon language, but this is very interesting to me from an anthropological point of view, because of the continued existence of Klingon a constructed language around the world]
He cannot communicate with the others by voice because it becomes too high-pitched and sounds like an insect.
He records an audio stream on a machine instead, in order to make them play it back.
For some reason he doesn't think of the possibility to write something down in plain text.
This reminds me of people at a bar/pub that yell extremely loud into their telephones instead of texting (or using any means of communication where text would've been more appropriate).
