#NOAA / #NWS issues Winter storm warning for !SoCal mountains in #San_Bernardino and #Riverside counties from today at 18:00 to Saturday at 15:00 US-Pacific. 3 to 6 inches of accumulated #snow in areas down to 1,500 feet / 457 meters elevation, winds to 75 MPH / 120 kmh, wind chills to -15⁰F / -26⁰C.
#NOAA / #NWS issuing Winter storm warning for !SoCal mountains (including those in #Riverside and #San_Bernardino counties) for 3-7 inches of heavy, wet snow above 4,500 feet elevation.
Also Winter storm watches in effect in SE #NE, SW #IA, central and NE #KS. Accumulations up to 3-7 inches of snow, 35-40MPH winds, blowing and drifting snow through Thursday 2023-02-16.
#NOAA / #NWS alerting to flooding in !SoCal: portions of #San_Bernardino, #Riverside, #Orange counties with urban and small stream flooding affecting low-lying and poor drainage areas. Water on roadways, mud and rocks over mountain highways. #Inland_Empire people should be alert.
The Winter storm continues. Snow in the mountains above 5,000 feet. Rain at lower elevations. Up to an inch in High Desert areas, up to half inch in Low Desert areas of #San_Bernardino and #Riverside counties. Minor flooding expected in low lying areas or areas with poor drainage.
And, no, do not expect this to end the drought, unless it continues for months.
!SoCal: Evacuations in parts of #San_Bernardino County due to wildfires. I have not heard yet whether any of neighboring #Riverside County is under evacuation.
The #Inland_Empire counties ( #San_Bernardino and #Riverside ), where I do get alerts, still have #NOAA / #NWS warnings for both wind and rainfall, watches for flash flooding on the coastal side of the mountains.
If you’re in #SoCal, pay attention to where you’re driving.
A big part appears to be based on the idea that most people will commute long distances to each county’s central hospital for their shots. Geographically, SBCo is the largest county in the lower 48 states, larger than some entire states, so that is entirely unreasonable. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/San_Bernardino_County,_California
Both counties have tribal reservations within their territory, but Riverside notes that tribal health groups will receive their vaccines directly from the federal government.
I don’t see “take a truck and set it up in the parking lot of the local park as a mobile vaccination center” or “set up temporary centers in CVS and Walgreens drug stores”.
* 2-4 inches of snow above 5500 feet elevation, some locations up to 8 inches; some snow possible down to 3500 feet elevation (which could affect passes) * Expect restricted visibility and slick roads.
Not included in this advisory, but I’d expect mountain areas in #Los_Angeles and #San_Diego counties to likewise receive snowfall.
!SoCal #NOAA / #NWS issued a wind advisory for the mountains of #San_Bernardino, #Riverside, and #San_Diego County mountains, the San Gorgonio Pass, and some areas of the deserts. West winds 25-35MPH, with gusts to 55MPH until around 16:00 PST. Expect low visibility due to windblown dust and sand
If you're here in #SoCal, be aware. (Nothing mentioned about Los Angeles, Orange, or Ventura counties, so they could have a similar alert that I just haven't seen.
#NOAA / #NWS Fire weather and Red flag warning for the following !SoCal areas:
#San_Bernardino and #Riverside Counties ( #Inland_Empire ) mountains, valleys, canyons, passes #Orange County inland areas #San_Diego County mountains and inland valleys Parts of the San Bernardino and Cleveland national forests San Gorgonio Pass
From 2020-12-07 04:00 PST to 2020-12-08 22:00. NE winds from 20-30MPH, with gusts to 40MPH (and up to 50MPH in/below certain passes and canyons). Relative humidity 10-20%. Outdoor burning not recommended, as fires will spread rapidly.
The wind events seem to be mild. #NOAA / #NWS is tagging them as Santa Anas, and they are coming from the Northeast and coldish on this side of the mountains, but they aren't the 70MPH winds I expect when I hear about Santa Ana winds.
Still, there's a fire weather warning for !SoCal areas in #San_Bernardino and #Riverside and #Orange and #San_Diego counties from the mountains to the beaches. Winds expected to be 20-30MPH with gusts to 40MPH and higher speeds in the foothills; humidity 10 to 20 percent.
Outdoor burning not recommended, as any brush fires will spread rapidly.
