> ASON is what JSON was supposed to be. It provides an extended set of data-types written in a natural way, the concept of symbols (variables), a cleaner leaner syntax, machine-independent executable expressions, and lightning-fast parsting input to your favorite programming language.
Well, nothing is available for download yet, but he’s announcing that it is coming. In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink Attachments

The last entry dates back to 2020-08-20, but I've seen activity in their repos and their Gitter chat, so I know it isn't dead.
I sort of root for #Red-Lang, because of its #REBOL heritage, though I've only used Rebol briefly. It feels a little LISP-y, yet it has something akin to objects and replaces parentheses with a smaller number of square brackets. It is also homoiconic. See http://wiki.c2.com/?HomoiconicLanguages and https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Homoiconicity
Another resemblance to Lisp: Rebol seems to have some problem connecting with the wider world which doesn't conform to its paradigms, though I think Red is working to pierce the wall of separation.
Still, for people just hearing of Red, they'll visit the site and see no news since last year and think it is abandoned or slow-moving, as Rebol is. (V.2 is supposedly being replaced with v.3, but work on Rebol 3 seems to have stopped a few years back and the main creator has a new language now.)In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink Attachments

It doesn’t bother me that “they wrote a cryptocurrency wallet in Red”:{https://www.red-lang.org/2019/07/red-wallet-040.html}. What bothers me is that it sounds like “they’re deeply integrating blockchain into the language itself”:{https://www.red-lang.org/2017/12/leaping-into-future-red-goes-blockchain.html}.
I see the potential, yes, but deeply tying one’s programming language to a single concept like this is a questionable choice, like creating a language and bonding it to CORBA would have been twenty years ago.
I guess we’ll just have to see how deeply integrated this Red/C3 “dialect” is. Some REBOL dialects are effectively a set of user-level functions. If Red/C3 is also, then it isn’t a big deal. If, on the other hand, it is part of the red.exe binary, then it may easily become an issue. In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink Attachments

The interpreter and datatype system is a C library useful for building domain-specific languages (DSLs) embedded in C/C++ applications.

The #REBOL like language called #Boron has development activity again. https://urlan.sourceforge.net/boron
It was in hibernation for probably a decade (2009 or 2010 to 2019, it looks like), but has been active again since early 2019.In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink Attachments
