Last night’s #earthquake was felt from Pahrump and Las Vegas, #NV to Tulare County, in the #California central valley, to Manhattan Beach in #SoCal. That’s an unusually large area for an M4.0 quake, at least in #CA. (Seen by browsing the #USGS site again.)

Virgin Trains is building a high speed rail link between !SoCal and #Las_Vegas, #NV. They plan to end it North of the Cajon Pass. That may be because of problems acquiring rights-of-way there.
I just think that not extending the line to Ontario International Airport (ONT) in Ontario, #CA, is likely to doom the train to low ridership. If I'm driving from #Los_Angeles, by the time I get to the Mojave Desert, I've already spent half of the time it takes to get to Las Vegas. Am I then going to pull into the park and ride and hop on the train? I just do not think most people will do so.
The extra hour of drive time is probably the difference between driving or hopping on a train.
NOTE: I'm in favor of the high speed rail link. I just think they need to extend it, so that the SW terminus is closer to most of the people who'll ride it.

There's a plan to build a high-speed rail line from Las Vegas, #NV, to #SoCal. They're seeking some #CA state funding guarantees, but it sounds like they may not get them.
I think their route doesn't go far enough into Southern California to be viable. They at least need to reach the Ontario International Airport (ONT). By the time people from Los Angeles and Orange counties reach the top of Cajon Pass on a Friday night, they have already spent half to three fourths of the time it takes to get to LVNV, so why would they go to a park-and-ride and board a train?

If you would like to be a 2021 (the award are announced in 2021, but the entry year will be 2020) regional judge for the CC Community Music Awards, get at me.
These are the current regions where we need people:
#GreatLakes (#IL, #IN, #MI, #OH)
#Midwest (#IA, #KS, #MN, #MO, #NE, #ND, #SD, #WI)
#South (#AL, #AR, Commonwealth of #PuertoRico, #FL, #LA, #MS)
#Southeast (#GA, #KY, #NC, #SC, #TN, #WV)
#Southwest (#AZ, #CO, #NM, #OK, #TX, #UT)
#West (#CA, #HI, #NV)
#Canada, #CentralAmerica, and #Caribbean (other than #PR)
#Europe
#Africa
#Pacific (including #Australia)
#SouthAmerica
Please feel free to translate this post into whatever language would be useful for finding people in the region, but please note that I speak only English, so it will be difficult for me to coordinate with someone that does not speak at least some English.
If some wants to step up and be a coordinator for Spanish or some other language, we would love the help.
I am going to try to keep up with this as a dailyish post until I accounted for all of the regions.

Cool and windy, with intermittent rain -- forecast for much of !SoCal's #San_Bernardino and #Riverside counties ... and neighboring counties in #AZ and #NV.
Remembering when I rode a 10 speed or took a bus to get to classes at the local college, I'm glad I don't have to go outside in this.

#TropStorm Dorian in the Atlantic now expected to surge into Hurricane status, then weaken back to a Tropical Storm before it passes #PR. The center of the forecast cone has it heading South of Puerto Rico, but a storm’s center can be anywhere in the cone.
Meanwhile, in the eastern Pacific, Ivo is now a Tropical Depression and should fade into a rainy low pressure zone before it drifts eastward over land. (I think it is too far South to bring moisture to areas that can use it, like #SoCal, #AZ, #NM, and parts of #NV.)
