* Tropical Depression 6 ( #TD-6 ) became #TropStorm #Gert, and is now a depression again, expected to fizzle out today. * Tropical Storm #Emily has now fizzled out into a remnant low * Tropical Storm #Franklin is expected to cross Hispaniola ( #Haiti and Dominican Republic #DR ) * #PTC-9 expected to become #TD-9 and then #TropStorm before arriving in southern #TX / northern #Mexico * Former #hurricane and #TropStorm #Hilary is now a post-tropical cyclone and expected to dissipate today.
Having seen the 2017 "Great American Eclipse" from Cape Girardeau, #MO, I know that the four or five minutes of totality is worth all the effort it will take to get there. I do not know how worthwhile it will be to travel to see a partial or annular eclipse.
Oddly, I think I sort of dreamed about building a home videogame console somewhere in Mexico 🇲🇽. It was odd. We were interviewed by TV stations and newspapers and I got to tell them that we wanted to work with certain big companies to use their products and services in our offering.
It's that time again. We are looking for regional judges for the Creative Commons Community Music Awards. Please let me know if you would be interested in taking a region.
The regions we have available are as follows (two regions are already taken): Mid-West - #ND, #SD, #NE, #KS, #MO, #IA, #MN, #WI, #IL, #IN, #MI, #OH Southwest - #OK, #TX, #NM, #AZ
In the future, we would love to break the regions up more, but having smaller regions this year has proved unmanageable. How much of that is due to covid? Who knows.
I have been told in the past that once-a-day posts are fine but any more than that gets tiresome. I doubt I will post daily, but if I post about this too much, please let me know!

Douglas A. WhitfieldI would really appreciate shares to get the message out of this. Also, please feel free to translate. I would love to have native Spanish speakers in particular involved as South America is predominantly Spanish-speaking. I know Brazil is Portuguese and one of the smaller northeast countries is English-speaking, but we just need diversity in general and I think having native speakers of other languages is one way to do that.

@geniusmusing #faveNephew keeps telling me that he wants to take me to #Mexico next time he goes to visit his grandmother, but at this point, I doubt it will ever happen.
Update: #TD #Hannah is now a depression, no longer a #TropStorm, continuing to move SW to WSW in #Mexico. #Hurricane #Douglas moving across parts of #HI through tomorrow morning, should become a Tropical Storm tomorrow.
Atlantic: #Hannah downgraded from hurricane to #TropStorm, the storm center has passed over southern #TX and is now over NE #Mexico. Rain and flooding across parts of #Texas and Mexico.
Central Pacific: center of #Hurricane #Douglas passed mostly N of the island of #Hawaii, but heading directly for other islands, including Oahu.
Yes, the part about losing proficiency without immersion matches my experience. I lived in (West) #Germany during part of my childhood. The military housing area was right across the street from a local housing area, so kids intermingled on the playground. Then I moved back to the US, and within a few years struggled to express anything more than "Wie gehts?"
Living in #SoCal, we had some Spanish language influence. Many of my friends had cousins that would visit from #Mexico, #Ecuador, #Peru, #Venzuela. We'd spend the Summers hanging out and speaking "Spanglish" together, then the rest of the year, that would slowly fade.
And that was at school age. I imagine it will be more difficult now that I'm a few decades older.
