I broke down Nvidia's news about open-source Linux drivers for HTG. Shoutout to people smarter than me looking through the code!

I realized I hardly ever add topical hashtags to posts which probably makes it tougher for folks around the fediverse to see things I write that they might be interested in. I'll try to do better with future posts about #weaving , #calculators , #addingmachines and #Linux #FOSS and #infosec topics.
I’ve spent all these years trying to find the “perfect” #linux os for servers in my homelab.. #debian so far seems to be the most consistent for me.. next up to try is #nixos
Pretty weird that I'm probably about to buy a Macbook Air. I mean, I'll run Linux on it, but still. It's just that I can't think of a better inexpensive tiny, portable laptop with good battery life.

A lot of people seem to think that fixing issues in #Linux desktops means copying Windows. I think that's not what we should do, and that there is only ONE area where we should be copying Windows:

I think part of the success of #linux based operating systems is that they managed to create a nexus for /every/ #FreeSoftware program to distribute itself to interested people, through package repositories and package managers. it's incredibly powerful that you can load up an entire minimum operating system of purely Free Software and then boot up your package manager and go discover more.
I think we need to create something vaguely like that for #FreeCulture to really get it to snowball.
@liw #Linux was still the underdog for years after I started using it. It is amazing to look at how stagnant the former dominant players have become. Only Solaris has had any real innovation, and even there #OpenZFS and #BPF seem to be pushing forward more than #ZFS and #dtrace. AIX, Tru64, SCO, HP-UX, etc. have all either withered or died, and even Solaris seems to be heading that way under Oracle.
So, I learned yesterday that Adélie #Linux exists, and that they fully support PowerPC and PowerPC64 systems like the old Apple Macs. I'll have to give this a try and see if it's worth running this instead of Debian bookworm/sid for PPC64. Might be a lot more stable.
