US-Präsident Donald Trump hat per Dekret bestimmt, dass Nicht-Amerikaner nicht denselben Schutz ihrer Privatsphäre genießen wie US-Bürger. Einige US-Publikationen wie Techcrunch, aber auch der Whistleblower Edward Snowden sehen darin eine Gefahr für das Privacy-Shield-Abkommen. Das soll die Daten europäischer Nutzer auf den Servern von US-amerikanischen Unternehmen schützen.
Allerdings hat Trumps Edikt mit diesem Abkommen eigentlich nichts zu tun. Vielmehr bezieht es sich darauf, wie US-Behörden mit den Daten von Bürgern und Nicht-Bürgern umgehen. Konkret verlangt Trump, dass die Behörden, sofern das nicht gegen andere Gesetze verstößt, Nicht-Amerikaner von ihren Datenschutzbestimmungen ausnehmen.
