Weird kind of busy today at work. Didn't get a chance to file my travel reimbursement. Came to hotel after work to see "good night" message from #GD2.
-
#GD2 (age 8) must have had trouble getting up for school. She used to send me messages on #Wire as late as 21:00 US-Central. Now, she sends her good night message promptly at 19:00 +/- 5 minutes.
-
Granddaughter #GD2’s birthday gifts arrived a little early. She’s already using the doodle pad to draw me pictures (this one can send doodles to other devices).
-
Long talk with #sonOne today, including about fifteen minutes with #GD1 and #GD2 telling me about cute boys in their classes. Talked about the big four-two, his effort to earn his Master's Degree, and financial stuff.
Lately, we talk a lot about investments, home ownership, and retirement.
Oh, and we talked about hard drives for his new NAS.
-
Not sure whether #sonOne (and #GD 1 & #GD2) calling from a new number means that the old number is retired. I’ll call the old number first, then call the new one if he does not answer.
It’s time for our weekly father-son-granddaughters call.
-
#GD2 (age 7): I’ve been sick for 3 days.
Me: Really? Happy birthday! I thought you were older than six.
I hope #sonOne told her what it was like growing up with me, or she may not understand.

I had a delightful videochat conversation with #sonTwo, his wife, and #GS3. We talked about the island assignment offer and whether we could find a way to continue having these chats regularly if I was in the other timezone.
I’ve just hinted at it with #sonOne, because I’m sure it would be even harder to continue my chats with seven year old #GD2.
It’s already hard to schedule time with #Daddy_A to chat with those kids. We *think* we’ll have one this Saturday, for the first time this year.
-
Trying to start a videochat with #GD1 (age 12) and #GD2 (age 7) before time for my chat with their cousin #GS3. They have not picked up yet.
-
An island location of $EMPLOYER is asking for people to come work there. I’m concerned about #timezones possibly preventing me from videochatting with grandkids.
I want to talk with #sonOne about scheduling chats with #GD1 and #GD2 before I head to the #hairport. #sonTwo already said they’ll try to adapt #GS3’s schedule to enable communication.
-
I didn't get to #videochat with #GD2 today*, but I did get a brief session when #sonTwo called to let me say good night to #GS3.
* For the 3rd week in a row. I'll have to check with #sonOne tomorrow to see whether she's been doing her chores and homework. Usually, when she doesn't call, it is because he took her electronics away again.

A telephone intensive day. Conference call, follow up calls from all over the country. Mark called about a tech issue his office is facing. I told him our office has the same issue, as yet unresolved. J-O called to ask my opinion on some comments he made during the conference call (and a follow up e-mail he sent to management in HQ). Missed #sonTwo’s call because I was on the phone with K and texting with S (both are on medical leave).
Called son back.
#Wire messages with both #GD1 and #GD2, both of whom are enjoying their school year so far.
-
Videochat with #sonTwo, his wife, #GS3 is just ending now. Delayed by a call with his older brother #sonOne ( and #GD1 and #GD2 ).
The hotspot is almost out of data for 2019-08.

Went to #Target to buy some more #yogurt, but got distracted by the pricing on school supplies. So I got backpacks ($18 each!) for #GD1 and #GD2 ( I bought #Little_Boy_A's backpack already ), art supplies, notebooks, folders, graph paper, an entry-level scientific calculator, pencils, elementary school lettering practice workbooks, and more.
#sonOne is going to have fun teaching his daughter to use that calculator. And the maps. Did I mention the wall-hanging USA and world maps I bought? (One pair for each son's kids.)
-
And now that it is 22:00 in #MO, I won’t get to videochat with #GD2 tonight.
-
It’s after 20:00 in #MO. Too late to videochat with #GD2.
-
#Little_Boy_A’s grandmother is taking him school shopping this week, so I’ll send the backpack without school supplies.
Meanwhile, #GD1 and #GD2 have a shopping trip scheduled a week from now. I will not have to send a lot.
-
I’m getting together a school supplies list for #GD2, who is going into “2st” grade soon. Since she usually writes in full sentences, I sometimes forget she’s still just beginning her school journey.
-
Trying to call my seven year old granddaughter #GD2 to ask about school supplies. If she does not answer, I'll ask her dad #sonOne.
-
Talking on the phone with #sonOne, #GD1, and #GD2. Even though she’s 11, I still have trouble understanding the older granddaughter on the phone.
-
#GD2 sent me a "Thank you" image after the most recent shipment arrived. A day or two later, #sonOne asked me whether the granddaughters had thanked me. I told him "I received thanks". Since I hadn't heard from #GD1, I texted to ask whether she liked her gifts. Her response ("ya") counts as thanks.
