I am glad to see that the FCC is finally not just acting as a corporate rubber-stamping machine. I think that it shouldn't take 7,500 of these satellites to figure out that SpaceX's request is too many in one operator's hands, but maybe this will open their eyes.In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink Attachments

The router itself should be capable of connecting to another #Wi-Fi and allowing a device on the network to do the public Wi-Fi's login routine. In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink -

> Zoom has agreed to upgrade its security practices in a tentative settlement with the Federal Trade Commission, which alleges that Zoom lied to users for years by claiming it offered end-to-end encryption.
> "[S]ince at least 2016, Zoom misled users by touting that it offered 'end-to-end, 256-bit encryption' to secure users' communications, when in fact it provided a lower level of security," the FTC said today in the announcement of its complaint against Zoom and the tentative settlement. Despite promising end-to-end encryption, the FTC said that "Zoom maintained the cryptographic keys that could allow Zoom to access the content of its customers' meetings, and secured its Zoom Meetings, in part, with a lower level of encryption than promised."

The #FCC was created to steward radio frequencies and other electronic communications for the benefit of the nation and its people, but auctions distract them from that duty by making them seek to sell more and more frequency allocations to the highest bidding corporations.
In this way, they can turn their backs completely on their legislated duties while claiming that auction fees prove they're doing their job correctly. In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink -

The reason there were so many ISPs during the era of pervasive dial-up is that #FCC "common carrier" rules prevented the last mile owners from blocking other providers (such as AOL, Prodigy, EarthLink, and the local mom and pop companies that sprung up everywhere). The reason there are so few options besides the last mile providers is that the FCC ruled that high speed access (first with cable, around the year 2000-2001, then later DSL/fiber) was not subject to said requirements. In conversation from nu.federati.net permalink -
