I recently got to talk to my sister's kids #Honshu, #faveNephew, #PizzaMan, and #LG (three brothers and a sister, all in their 20s and 30s) in person. It was interesting that faveNephew and LG brought up the year I'd gotten tons of overtime, so I shipped each one a different model of tablet computer back when most people did not have such devices.
PizzaMan, being the youngest male, was always the last to get anything. Even his younger sister got things before he did. So I sent his tablet first, a week or more before the next sibling's shipment.

#faveNephew is working on getting a state license for the next phase of his career, which may mean switching to a different agency within the county government. In the current agency, he's not getting enough applicable hours ( he's working up to 60 hours per week, but most of those hours are doing tasks which don't count toward the license ).
Meanwhile, his cousin ( formerly known as #lazyNephew ) was recently fired from his job. Also, his girlfriend broke up with him (but her mom and siblings like him, so he's still welcome to stay with them) and the apartment building has new management which is evicting everyone so they can renovate and raise the rates.

Some time back, I told #faveNephew a story about something he did when he was 2-3 years old. He says he's been thinking about it ever since.
It wasn't that important. He was a small child. But he says it tipped him to something he wants to have checked sometime.
Now, when I tell the other nephew (ex #lazyNephew) about things he did at that age, he's immediately embarrassed. To which I say things like "Almost every child in the country was wearing Barney underpants at that time." and remind him that there's nothing to be embarrassed about.

#faveNephew called. We talked for almost three hours tonight. Lots of stuff going on in his workplace. We also talked about the kids, about things going on in my other nephew's life (just general ... including some things I don't even "officially" know, but I know), about career and life next steps.

#faveNephew and #lazyNephew both felt a stronger quake than I did, but they were both closer to the epicenter.

I sent #faveNephew a link to a news article about a #road_rage shooting on the #SoCal freeway he uses to get to work and back. He called me on his way home after work to tell me that I'd freaked him out.

Sounds like two of my brothers and one sister are coming here today to have a family #BBQ and spend time with Mom. Possibly #faveNephew, too, but not his siblings or cousins.

#faveNephew paid for one of his cousins to attend the memorial service. This one shares my birthday. We’ve been supposed to celebrate together for years, but it’s never happened.

@fu I don't know whether I have mentioned it since I started seeing you around, but one of my sisters is married to a Mexican citizen. #faveNephew is a citizen of both Estados Unidos Americanos and Estados Unidos Mexicanos.
We haven't had the full family get together in years, but I really used to enjoy the variety of foods. Most of it, anyway. I think I need to retry Persian and Korean foods. My tastes have changed since then.

Back in #SoCal. #faveNephew brought me "home" from the #hairport.
Also, since when did #TSA need to use my key to open my luggage. My lock is TSA compliant, and has been opened by them many times over the years.

@clacke Yeah, even family members don't always know. #faveNephew told me that he thought I was in upstate New York, despite me sending pictures of various #NYC landmarks.

When #faveNephew was about 14, the TV news said "Your teen is texting pictures of their private parts to other people. This is called 'sexting'."
I was in Ohio, but I called him immediately and said "If I ever hear that you did that, I'm going to beat your butt". The same conversation was had with #sonTwo and #Daddy_A.
I do note that I did not call any of my other nephews to tell them that. I called the one that I knew would listen to me.
Still, I wonder whether other parents and adult family members were doing their jobs when their child was young enough to listen whenever I see a 20-something post exactly that kind of content.

I had a good call with #fave_nephew last night. We mostly talked about work ... especially his. He may be on the promotion track, but it will take years to get the required time for the promotion. Also, they offered to pay for a Master's Degree, but the organization's requirements are too restrictive.

Explaining to #faveNephew that the line of people awaiting testing was enough that it took about two hours just to reach the table where tests were administered. I’m sure #NYC is having a surge of #COVID-19, because I’ve seen people waiting in excess of an hour outside a walk-in clinic / urgent care. Plus multiple street testing centers, all of which seem to be overloaded.

Talked to #faveNephew last night. One of the things we talked about is my fiftieth high school reunion (not this year, but soon) and whether I would attend.
The truth is, that is the only one I intended to attend, but unless I know that one or more of a handful of once-close classmates are attending, I likely will not attend.
My nephew was not surprised by this. (He thinks I have social anxiety anyway.)

Spent 2.5 hours on the phone with #faveNephew and 0.5 hours on the phone with #sonTwo tonight.

My #faveNephew said I did not grow up Black. I wanted to ask"You mean like that scene in 'The Jerk', only reversed?', but I silently accepted that he meant well.
I think he meant not in a stereotypical way, in an all Black neighborhood, exposed to ethnic culture.

Got to spend some time with #faveNephew today. We met for #coffee at the same place where I go for off-site management meetings. We talked about work, career plans, end-of-life planning. Also about the tendency of myself and his uncles to work lots of hours, to the point that it negatively affects our relationships.
His basic hourly wage is more than mine, and he applied for a promotion that could eventually put him way above anything I can expect to earn during my lifetime. He believes his agency will deny him the promotion because they have a shortage of people doing his specific job.
The workaholic thing was pretty funny. One of the people I supervise kept calling and texting about a schedule change he wanted me to approve. Meanwhile, my nephew had two face to face meetings that got called today, so someone kept calling and texting him to get confirmation about the time and place of one of the meetings, despite being “too busy” during the discussion that led to the meetings. This meant that both my nephew and myself were working while we were off.

By the way, according to #faveNephew, the calories, fat, and sodium 🧂 in Popeye’s chicken don’t count if you walked there and back.

#faveNephew: What's your address? The license for my job is public info and I don't want to use mine because of safety.
Me: Uhhh ...
