(Note: Real numbers are higher. Because of the testing shortage, many people still cannot get tested, and are sent home. I can't find the link right now, but I saw that Boston and Detroit are seeing double the usual number of "died at home" cases. It is not known if they are testing the bodies for the #SARS-COV-2 virus.)
I did notice a jump in their numbers, but I thought there may have been another flare up during the few days I was not monitoring the JHU site. (Some sites have questioned the numbers out of China, referring to crematorium activity levels and restrictions in and around Wuhan as indicators.)
> Spain’s health minister said this week that the peak of the virus had been reached and the focus is turning to “bending” the infection curve. Spain has suffered more deaths per million inhabitants than any other nation, with a toll of more than 19,000 as of Thursday.
Kim Jong Un a no-show at traditional celebration. People speculate about health issue. #NK #North_Korea
He's basically an absolute dictator. Maybe he just got tired of honoring his grandfather's memory. Or maybe his nation's claim of zero #COVID-19 infections is false. There's really no way to tell, because despite the celebration being a tradition that he embraced, no one is going to force him to continue it, or require "a good reason" for him missing it.
Heck, maybe his #Depends leaked ten minutes before the celebration started and he did not have time to find another pair of pants large enough to fit.
@adcock WHO may need to be taught a lesson, but not when the pandemic is just getting started in the poorer parts of the world. Besides, even when China's numbers appeared to be unrealistically optimistic (as they still do), and WHO seemed to believe what they were told, it was clear that #COVID-19 could escape and run rampant in other countries.
US President #Trump suspends support payments to #WHO pending investigation.
I strongly disagree with this. Wait until the world gets a handle on the #COVID-19 outbreak. Besides, even though no one may have known just how big this would become (not even WHO), it was predictable fairly early on that cases could come here and start spreading locally. No one is saying to suspend funding the US government because there weren't enough test kits available and deployed to localities where outbreaks were most likely.
Some sites say this vaccine shows promise in reducing #COVID-19 ... normally used against tuberculosis and leprosy ... costs $0.16 to $1.11 per dose in the developing world, $100 to $200 per dose in the US.
"We don’t know how horrible the economic damage will be but we know it will be huge. And we are still nowhere near the total flu deaths we see each year."
Dude, US deaths from #COVID-19 (26,033) versus US deaths from #influenza (24K-62K). With far fewer infections, #coronavirus has already caught up.
Three #Amazon employees who were publicly critical of the company’s treatment of employees during the #COVID-19 outbreak have been fired.
Also, the #SBA expects the full !smallbiz support fund to be committed by Thursday (2020-04-16). Hopefully President #Trump and #Congress can get their acts together to add more to the pot.
I'm tempted to call his cousin ( my nephew #PizzaMan ) who also works there and ask about the conditions, but I don't know how I could do that without making it sound like I'm checking up on the first nephew. I'm not wanting to start any kind of family trouble.
