They left and later found out that they’d picked up #COVID-19 / #2019-nCoV … which spread to all of her family members and their baby. Since they can’t afford to be off-work, I suspect they’re going to work anyway.
Unfortunately, the doctor didn’t do any tests because he said the primary cause was over and done with. (I had asked whether the doctor had tested for any of the diseases that are filling emergency rooms right now: #COVID-19 / #2019-nCoV, RSV, #influenza / #flu )
Honestly, I'm more interested in the continuing actions of #anti-vaxers & #anti-maskers, especially those who are #pollies. They're doing more to spread #2019-nCoV / #COVID-19 NOW than any efforts to keep things secret in late 2019.
Another brother is also infected, but as far as I'm aware, his spouse is not.
They haven't been in the same place at the same time since May, I believe, so they didn't get #2019-nCoV from each other.
I noticed some symptoms, so I took a home test and it showed negative. My sister has weekly tests for work (she's a schoolteacher), so I know that she also tested negative or she couldn't go to work. Mom said she's had some symptoms. We're waiting for her to test.
New intelligence assessment confirms what intelligence agencies said in early 2020 (before President Trump said the same thing).
This is one of the reasons I've always believed that #COVID-19 / #2019-nCoV came from the Wuhan lab. The original assessment (as reported in news sites in 2020 ... I don't have any access to such agencies' internal docs) said that several lab employees were missing work because they were sick ... and this was said to be BEFORE any publicly acknowledged outbreak at the wet market.
I don't recall how the discussion got there, but we were talking about shutting down schools due to the #COVID-19 pandemic and he said that "we knew from the beginning that it basically did not affect children and that we didn't need to do that". I pointed out that we did not know any such thing, and that despite generally less severe effects, those kids live with parents, grandparents, and other adults ... sending them into germ factories unmasked (as he'd have wanted) would have been a death sentence for many of the adults in these kids' lives.
Then I mentioned that most schools have ventilation issues and many are in buildings that date back 50-100 years. (And in fact, one of the facilities we were supporting was in an old school that was probably built in the late 1940s or early 1950s. In this case, it was an area of small towns where almost everyone under 50 had left to find jobs, so most of the schools closed.) He insisted that all schools had done ventilation upgrades in 2020 as the pandemic spread across the nation.
At that point, I understood that this person likely ingested too much propaganda from a certain "news" channel, much of which is probably originally designed in Moscow, so I stopped responding.
He was probably a normal or nearly-normal person until the fear that #2019-nCoV was a plot by #China and the #Democrats to displace #Trump came about. I don't have any indication that this is what he believed / believes, but I think a lot of #anti-vaxxers and #anti-maskers started there and moved on to their extreme beliefs afterward.
> New research looks at the effects of repeated Covid infections and finds pretty much what you would expect: you not only do not get any kind of superimmunity, you increase your risk of long-term consequences, hospitalization and death. The worse news is that this holds true regardless of vaccination status.
Epstein-Barr virus ( #EBV ) reactivation may be involved in some of the "long-COVID" symptoms ... study shows increased EBV reactivation in long-COVID patients.
Rapid antigen tests have increase false negative rates versus the Omicron variant of #COVID-19 ... apparently, that strain of the #SARS-CoV-2 #coronavirus has a sufficiently different protein coat that tests show reduced sensitivity.
TL;DR: Not data, but observation says that a lot of people are lined up waiting to take COVID-19 tests. That could indicate that the new variant is spreading quickly in #NYC. #2019-nCoV
