But there is something uniquely special about this image, that made it one of my most difficult shots ever. So, what is it? #astrophotography #space #opteam https://twitter.com/AJamesMcCarthy/status/1385999613501476870/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/71787 -

This is an image I captured 10 minutes ago from my backyard. #astrophotography #space #opteam https://twitter.com/AJamesMcCarthy/status/1333114113979949056/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/69413 -

Take a look at how much stark beauty exists on this rock we tend to take for granted. #astrophotography #space #opteam https://twitter.com/AJamesMcCarthy/status/1330234960255528963/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/69311 -

By getting creative with blending in overexposed frames, I gave it a bit of depth. Mars will be closest to Earth next month. #opteam #space #astrophotography https://twitter.com/AJamesMcCarthy/status/1302303130055446528/photo/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/67324 -

It's the dense, rotating core left behind after a giant star collapses. This is the Vela pulsar, which rotates faster than a helicopter rotor and shoots out jets about 70% the speed of light that @chandraxray sees. #space #science https://twitter.com/megwatzke/status/1243161851057201153/video/1 https://chirp.cooleysekula.net/attachment/64057 -

Working at Harvard College Observatory, Leavitt precisely calibrated the photographic magnitudes of 47 stars to which all other stars could be compared. Leavitt discovered and cataloged over 1500 variable stars in the nearby Magellanic Clouds. From this catalog, Leavitt discovered that brighter Cepheid variable stars take longer to vary, a fact used today to calibrate the distance scale of our universe. http://apod.nasa.gov/apod/ap000903.html #astronomy #picture #space #NASA #APOD In conversation from NavierStokesApp permalink Attachments
