An interesting article by writer Valerie Tarico about how too close a reading of the Bible as a parenting guide ties the reader to Iron Age thinking about women, children, and property. Most interesting, this kind of deep assessment of the scientific quality of the Bible leads to a similar conclusion - it is a terrible textbook to describe the natural world. So caveat emptor on using it to parent or understand the cosmos. http://www.salon.com/2015/03/29/the_bible_isnt_a_parenting_guide_why_the_religious_rights_hypocrisy_is_so_obscene_partner/ The author herself had an interesting path, which she describes here: http://valerietarico.com/about/. She self-describes as a "recovering Evangelical," an interesting phrase.
