I too had, years before ChatGPT, the ”why put 99% of your effort into stopping the 1% who might cheat” realization. Pour your effort into your teaching and mentoring. Cheters will fail by their own hand, now, soon, or later. They plant the seeds of their own demise. And I like turning chat bots into classwork. -

My students are expected to show their work and demonstrate their ability to use the tools. ChatGPT can’t stand in their shoes for them and actually do the work step by step in front of the class.

Stephen Sekula (steve@chirp.cooleysekula.net)'s status on Wednesday, 08-Feb-2023 01:51:16 UTC Stephen Sekula Indeed! Same for classes with writing or other skills ... ChatGPT offers a chance to do what amounts to the best kind of learning anyway: do it live, do it in class, do it together and share and discuss and struggle. Passive learning can happen outside of class. Stephen Kellat likes this.
