"Apple is considered a pioneer of innovative technology." lol, how do people still write this stuff. Literally someone published this 2 hours ago.
-
the best part it is in reference to a VR headset coming out in...2022

@musicman If one goes far enough back in time it becomes true. iPod, iPhone, iPad were all innovative at the time.
-
the iPhone came years after the Blackberry. That's the primary example of Apple NOT being a leader.

the first mp3 player was 1997...ipod was 2001

I personally used smart phones and tablets before Apple entered the market. Apple got the mouse from Xerox. They have never been anything but copycats.
-
@musicman Yes, they are copycats, but there is a big leap between a Blackberry Bold and an iPhone 5 (when $EMPLOYER switched; no prior experience with either company).
As for the iPod, I never owned one, but I believe its secret weapon was the iTunes desktop software, which is why the Palm Pre used to pretend to be an iPod.

I guess there's a certain amount of innovation in Apple's "our way or the highway" approach to things like USB-C, but I think Apple learned with the Newton what Google learned with Glass. True innovation is expensive and often there is no market.
It's a shame things didn't take off sooner with Google Glass, because I think VR/AR could have been useful for a lot of people during the pandemic. Ultimately, I think AR is more interesting and useful than VR, but idk who is going to take the leap there after what happened with Glass.
