As of almost two years ago, the above plan to build an amusement facility atop the landfill ... is not going to happen.
What I'm amazed at is that for years, #BKK was in the #SoCal news at least weekly ... the city ( #West_Covina ) and county ( #Los_Angeles ) trying to close it down, toxic chemical producers worries about where they were going to send their waste, and BKK corporation trying to keep it open until they could open another such dump.
I think they were already closed by the time that Waste Management Corp tried to get Rail-Cycle approved. RC was one of two projects meant to ship waste by rail to the far-off parts of the California desert, where some was to be burned to produce electricity and some was to be buried in a newly-constructed landfill. Eventually, both plans failed to garner enough support.
A nearby landfill produces gasses, which the hotel burns to produce energy. It might not have the same toxics issue as #BKK, so it might not be practical for them.
BKK is known to be producing a toxic groundwater plume. I expect the other two are also leaking.
Fun fact: There is (or was; I haven't been in that area in years) a nearby road named Aroma. I always suspected it was a humorous take on the odors perceptible in the area.
