I'd love to see the older and younger boys also assist, but the middle child is the one I trust to make decisions that are closest to my own values, so he's the one I'd want to leave in control.
Anyway, that's all great, but doing what? How would I prepare (skill up, get funding, acquire necessary tools and equipment)?
I don't have any answers or even any leanings that I could use for guidance, which stinks, because I have never been the person that did not know what I wanted to achieve and how I wanted to proceed to make that happen.
my friend Nik and I have been talking about making a FLOSS training app. There's probably a small market for something like Fitbit or Garmin Connect that is privacy-focused, but my guess is you would need to have connections to "elites".
Anyway, we have a GitHub organization, but no code yet.
Nik is obsessed with starting a business, but I don't think he's a very good developer. Still, he continues to learn, so he might get there.
Anyway, I could send you his email if you would be interested in speaking with him about his various business ideas.
@musicman I think I need to figure out a direction first. I don’t want to have your buddy tell me something and go “That sounds great!” ... and then realize months later that I’ve been working on building & launching something based on his enthusiasm and not mine.
I used to be obsessed with starting a business. But various fambiz initiatives gradually fell apart, generally because the economy in my area of SoCal requires me to work outside the area and send money home, so I was working too many hours, going back to hotel rooms, and trying to manage things in terrible network conditions and with very restrictive time limits.
