@geniusmusing yeah, the number of times people stand at my desk while I am blasting music to ignore everything is pretty hilarious

Apparently, we are going to get more aggressive with recruiting. It seems to me the best way to do that would be to offer the referrers more money. It's not very creative, but money talks.
-
@musicman Money does talk. Offices near family members also matters.
-
@lnxw48a1 allowing remote work would help, yes, but I don't see that happening. Changing the bonus from 1k to 2k would drive more people to recruit though. I was talking about driving recruitment, not driving hiring.
-
@musicman I’m just saying.
-
@lnxw48a1 if I could work from home, I would do it in a heartbeat. I get nothing but frustration by going to the office
-
@geniusmusing some people love offices. My friend Nik for example. These people also like parties, I think.
-
@geniusmusing my commute is short. I come home every day for lunch, but having that hour back every day would be nice...
That's not a perforce thing. That's an office thing.

@geniusmusing we are reasonably flexible, like today I went in half an hour early because I had some errands to run. It's not quite whenever you want. Our alameda office tends to be more flexible. It would be better if I had an office instead of a cube, but all of our offices are glass anyway. I understand the nod to transparency but I hate having people move around me. I want to work in a sensory deprevation chamber. I will say that training in person is definitely easier, but past that I don't see a lot of point on the support team. Maybe it makes more sense for other teams.
-
@musicman @geniusmusing A lot of in-office work is about “I can walk by and see that you are working”. If we were more willing to look at measured output to see how much someone works, many more jobs could become work-from-home.
-
@lnxw48a1 if only we had some system where all of my work goes...
-
@musicman @geniusmusing Yep. The noisiest group in this office moved into the section adjacent to my support team.

@geniusmusing one time it was my boss' boss' boss coming to tell me I was doing a good job, lol. It's not as casual as some places but one of the IT guys cracked a rib and had the CEO touch it and was like "fucking weird right". I think he may have been on too many pain meds. Mark is cool, but I'd never say fuck in front of him intentionally, lol. Nbd, really though.

@lnxw48a1 they bang a gong every time they make a new sell, or maybe only sells of a certain size, but that gong is way too close to where people that talk to customers is. I guess the sales guys like banging it, but it's never been anything but annoying to me. Good thing for @Kai there's no such gong in Alameda. I've heard the alameda office is very quiet. Zero chance of my wife moving to the bay area though.
