@kai I think many others feel similarly.

you work in operations, right? One thing about support, at least at Perforce (and at Nagios), is it is shift-based. I show up at 8am and leave at 5pm, and if there's a critical issue I pass it over to California (or Australia or UK depending on how critical and customer time zone)
I mention Nagios because I'm not trying to toot the horn about Perforce. Perforce has it's good and bad points, just like everywhere. One of our bad points is we don't have enough people. As you know, we are working on that. We can talk more about Perforce's good points and bad points, if you like.
I haven't spoken to Nik enough to know how he feels about JFrog and Nik and I are very different, so I'm not sure him liking JFrog means I would like it. You just need to evaluate what we both tell you about both of the places.
Sometimes you just need change too. You've been at your current place a long time if memory serves. I've never been at a place longer than 3 years and a couple of months. Publicly, I claim blocSonic since 2010, but that was the start of Music Manumit. Mike said he was ok with saying Music Manumit and blocSonic merged since Tom is a blocSonic musician.

also, Nik and I hung out all the time when he was in Minneapolis. I know him well. I'm just too busy cycling and taking care of cats to do a good job keeping up with people I'm not going to see often.
-
@kai If you only knew how many others I hear saying exactly that.
I don’t have a magic formula that unsticks people. Maybe there’s a type of WD-40 for careers.
-
We do have some people that come in later in the California office. Anything else I have to say about that would be conjecture and wouldn't be helpful to you in any way.
No after hours calls if things are down where you are now? Still, like I said, sometimes you just need change.
-
no. Our support team covers the planet. Sydney -> UK -> Florida (until the end of the week) -> Minneapolis -> Alameda ....repeat
We do have a Critical Care team (which is made up of the support team) where you could be on call for additional money on the weekend and holidays, but you wouldn't be required to be on it.

@kai Yeah, my life was always working full time and taking a full load of classes. So whenever I am especially dissatisfied with $EMPLOYER, I feel like a lazy bum because I cannot do that anymore.
-
@kai $EMPLOYER is extremely schedule-unfriendly. It is difficult enough to promise attendance at annual family events like birthdays. Scheduling class attendance, studying, homework (either physical or online) is impossible.

@kai I've never had a job where vacation was available, but I believe time away from work is important for your mind. Modern organizations specialize in soul-devouring. Getting away is life-restoring.
