@kai Students get jobs after graduation. If your LUG attendance is part of a longer term effort, it may pay off.
-
I suspect you know this, but...depends on where, but you're wrong in a general sense
-
we're hiring, btw.
-
Perforce generally, but specifically my team
-
do you know git?
-
https://www.perforce.com/careers -- the listing for my team isn't up yet, but will be based in Alameda or Minneapolis most likely. There's an off-chance it could be Sydney, but I am guessing Sydney is not your timezone based on the fact you are active now.

@kai perforce has offices in the Boston area, but not my team. My team supports Helix Teamhub and Helix4Git (among a bunch of other things, but that's why I asked about git). We do some development if you're interested but that's not required and might not happen at all. Lots of Linux, on rare (becoming rarer) occasions BSD. The perfect candidate would have Windows experience but largely you could get away without it. We take our own cases, so you could just not take those. A lot of our tooling is BSD licensed, but it all is backed by our proprietary server stuff...which is a bummer, but is what it is. I also just asked about git because of the Linux user group mention. We don't necessarily need someone for those products. I don't support the git tooling, for example
-
@kai our applications run on Mac, Windows, and linux (in the past we supported Solaris and BSD and I think some other stuff but its so rare to come across those we don't put that as even a nice to have on job posts). Not all of the products. For example, the product I support only runs on Linux because we don't support the apache modules needed for Windows. It's a PHP application. Our git tooling also don't work on Windows. In any case, I know nothing about the Boston teams, but my old boss recently got moved to manage a team out of Boston so i could see if they are looking if you're interested.

looks like our instance points @dsh to a bad instance, but maybe s/he will see this anyway.
This is the only position we have open on the east coast, it seems: https://www.perforce.com/careers/open-jobs?gnk=job&gni=8a78879f6c5073a0016c8b6c7ab974f9
if you're interested in any of our positions (or might be in the future), send a resume to dwhitfield@perforce.com
Our recruiters take internal suggestions VERY seriously.
-
@kai not sure if that position is managed by my old boss, but he's a big cyclist...or was. Now he seems to travel all the time.
-
@sean are you looking for writing jobs, development jobs, or something else? We have a variety: https://www.perforce.com/careers -- I'm not sure where you are though.
-
@musicman @dsh is @sean .

You should address the cover letter to Veronica Kanczes, as she's the hiring manager. I should have mentioned that before.
I think the cover letter is a little weak, at least in part because it does not address which office you'd want to work in or anything about moving. I think that will be a big concern. My gut says you should pick an office
My friend Nik applied the last time we had an opening. He ended up picking a different position, but I learned a lot about my old manager's thought process in hiring then. It's a new hiring manager now, so I'm less sure of what she want's but I know the issue of staying with us for a while was a big concern for Kevin (my old boss). I think the fact that you aren't in either location would cause doubts on whether you'd stay. It's by no means insurmountable, or I wouldn't have led you this far down the path, but I do think it is something to address in the cover letter, and you should be ready for those questions should you get an interview.
Anyway, once you've addressed it to Veronica (and made any additional changes you want), I'll pass it on to the recruiters.
-
I doubt anyone really cares if you have an address at all, but it does look more formal with one.
Veronica is in Alameda, so it probably makes sense to put the Alameda Office regardless of which office you want to go to:
2320 Blanding Ave
Alameda, CA 94501

Recruiters have confirmed receipt
-
it's possible that she has already reached out, but Sarah is the recruiter that will be calling you for a screening interview. I do not know here. She works in the Colorado office. One of my friends went through the process with her though. I'll check with him and make sure it is cool, and then give you his contact info.

omg, I didn't think to ask you about giving Nik your email address. Apologies, but I guess it worked out! I did think to make sure I wasn't forwarding along your resume and cover letter though.
