This last Saturday 26th was celebrated the #LinuXatUNI event at National University of Engineering. There were more than 250 people registered, but we have only 84 attended, though. I was surprised about this! It might be the upcoming final exams at universities in Lima or the early time on weekend.
Beside this, students and enthusiastic Linux people were gathered at the venue before 8:00 a.m. We started by projecting the “Revolution of the Operating System” movie, for people who did not bring their laptops.
While people had been registered, we gave all the participants stickers of GNOME, FEDORA & LinuXatUNI, and DVDs of F25 as a gift. We did also ask to pose at the camera with a special photo booth frame:
The Install Fedora 25 party took place to people who brought laptop. Some of them had Windows Operating System and others Ubuntu. For newbies, “Dual boot” was the most demanding way, among Virtual Box and Live DVD.
After that, the conferences onsite started with the Welcome message and the Fedora Ambassadors in the morning and Erick Cachay from IBM del Perú in the afternoon.
The sharing cake had arrived, and we did have cake and coke for everyone!
When we have people happy and sweet, we can ask for a group photo. Thanks for all the volunteers that helped us with the registration in pictures of this special day.
A collective effort of the volunteers from different universities was clearly demonstrated.
Contributors from GNOME and FEDORA were online to share their expertise with Peru. Thanks Bastian from Denmark, Fefa from Chile, Fabio from Chile and Nuritzi from U.S.
Fedora Latam ambassadors also were online on time. Thanks to Neville and Eduardo Mayorga from Nicaragua, echevemaster from Colombia and Athos from Brazil! who was a great surprise that day :3
It was an honor to have students from universities in provinces who came to the event.
The method called “trivias” was applied also in #LinuXatUNI, we prized people who answered our questions related to LinuX, GNOME and Fedora.
It is quite hard to find women in IT, moreover have Linux women and moreover Fedora and GNOME women. I hope this women can follow the Linux way :3
People have to work to survive, and spending time in personal life is also crucial that doing volunteer activities can be sometimes a “special mission”. The following people are more than amazing because besides their works, they really helped with a smile and enthusiasm in order to have a successful event! Thanks Leyla Marcelo & Raul Mucha from UPN, and Martin Vuelta from UNMSM.
Even I tried to plan carefully (after all these years of experience in doing events), I did fail in some aspects like in sound, video and times scheduling. The idea of the “Genius bar” took place “in the floor”, because it was not allowed to have drinks inside the auditorium neither locate tables inside preventing accidents in case of earthquake. I really had a great DJ, but I did not consider the music inside during the test. Also my laptop has more than 5 years and maybe the sound incoming and delivered was not the best. I should invest in a better one. Lastly, connectors and cables did not let us work partially or totally onsite.
Please see more pictures here, and I hope you enjoy them! 🙂
